Hello Everyone! Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ben and I practice Chinese Acupressure, am a martial arts instructor, and teach Tai Chi and Qi Gong meditation. I have been studying the Chinese healing and martial arts since 2005 and have a true passion for helping people.
The system of healing I use is called Meridian Therapy and is extremely effective in treating sports injuries, chronic pain, and high blood pressure just to name a few. Based on the same principles as acupuncture, I stimulate pressure points and meridians (energy pathways) and help removed blockages of energy (Chi). At its core, Meridian Therapy decreases swelling and increases circulation. This brings more oxygenated blood to injured or painful areas and removes toxins. Have you ever been curious about trying acupuncture but don’t like needles? Have no fear! I don’t use needles in my treatments, just my hands, fingers and elbows. Have you wanted to try a massage but feel uncomfortable with having to get undressed? All my sessions are done fully clothed. Just wear something comfortable and you’re ready to have your first Acupressure massage!
My own personal journey into the world of bodywork and healing started at 16. I had a chronic bowel disorder and could not seem to find a remedy. I began to receive Asian bodywork and over the course of the next year or so my symptoms dramatically improved. The Chinese have been using points and meridians for over 5000 years; maybe there really was something to this! After being exposed at a young age to the healing arts I was eventually led to study this work myself. Combined with regular exercise and meditation, I was able to connect with my body on a level I never knew possible. None of this is mystical or magical as some people tend to think. Chi is simply bio-electric energy in the body. When we can learn how to rebalance and restore chi flow, our body, mind and spirit respond. For me, this is just a very practical way of taking care of myself and continuing to explore all the possibilities of growth that surround me.
The idea and practice of wellness and taking care of yourself has been distorted by our culture. We have been conditioned to take a pill for any ailments that may arise. We treat symptom instead of root cause. My approach to health and wellness is pretty simple: eat well, exercise, meditate, and listen to your body. If you are hungry, eat. If you are tired, rest. All of these things take practice and repetition to successfully implement into your life. The key word here is practice. By no means do I do everything perfectly. Just because I have the knowledge does not mean that I apply it the way I know I should. Life gets in the way and I miss a workout. I’m too tired to cook so I get take out instead. The key here is practicing the good habits more than you practice the bad ones. I find it helpful for me to schedule and map out what I want and need to accomplish. And then I do it. Action is a crucial concept that is often left by the wayside. Without a plan there is no action, but without action there are no results.
I will leave you with this final thought. Lao Tzu said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” No matter where you are in your journey, all we have is one step, one day. Take that action each day to treat your body right. And if you don’t know where to start, I’m here to help.
